Palacio de Leonor is a 16th century mansion that was built and occupied by the daughter of the Spanish conqueror, Don Pedro de Alvarado. Doña Leonor, the first mestiza born in Guatemala, was well known for her inner strength and resolve during a very tumultuous time in history. Once you step behind the heavy oak doors of the Palacio, you will enter a time 500 years past and experience the splendor of Doña Leonor's home. Palacio de Doña Leonor is a magnificent hotel with central garden, warm fires, and sumptuous bedchambers. It's excellent location in the city's cultural center places its visitors only half a block from the first structures in Antigua Guatemala: The Cathedral; Palace of the Captain's General; Main Plaza and the Palacio itself.

The Palacio was built adjacent to the Cathedral of Santiago, or Central Cathedral, between 1541 and 1543 by Doña Leonor de Alvarado and Don Francisco de la Cueva. Doña Leonor was the daughter of Don Pedro de Alvarado and the Tlaxcalan Indian princess, Tecuilhuatzin - Doña Luisa.	Regional architects, historians and designers were consulted about faithfulness to the original colonial style.. Descendants of skilled artisans were enlisted to utilize crafts passed down for generations.

Warm and embracing, each bedroom is named after a family member of Doña Leonor. They are all unique in style, each representing the individual tastes of her family and the architectural decor of the 16th Century.	The spacious bedchambers have separate tub and showers, Egyptian cotton sheeting, and delightful nighttime treats.

From colonial furniture to antique chandeliers, everything in the Palacio has been handpicked with love and attention to detail.	Doña Luisa's room, bright and cheery with a hand painted ceiling, overlooks the Cathedral of Santiago. The uniqueness of the Palacio rooms include four-poster beds, ornately carved hand painted ceilings, warm fires and hand-crafted antiques.
